Downtown Calgary Homes
Downtown Calgary became established with the arrival of the CPR in 1883, creating a busy city core. Today's city centre includes the shops of Stephen Avenue Mall, Penny Lane, Bankers Hall and Eaton’s Centre. China Town is located at the NW corner of the downtown area.
Downtown Calgary real estate consists of commercial, financial, retail and government buildings with a handful of residential high rises from the 70's and 80's. Other mixed use condominiums include The Riverfront, Five West and the highly anticipated Waterfront and River Pointe Development.
Much of downtown is connected by the city’s above ground (heated) pedestrian system called the Plus 15. This is an efficient 16 km system of 57 enclosed bridges approximately 15 feet above street level. Light Rail Transit (LRT) users can use the train within downtown for free.
Parks/Schools/Recreation
Residents of Downtown Calgary benefit from a local YWCA, and numerous parks including Century Gardens and Olympic Plaza, which was originally built for medal presentations, but is now popular for concerts, festivals and ice skating.
